tender growth: blooming beyond harm & nurturing safer spaces

join us, kate & nikki, for a three hour workshop exploring care, healing and safety in creative communities. we will be in conversation, sharing our own personal experiences of building caring spaces. this workshop entangles the personal and the collective. we are curious about our shared experiences of healing and care, our relationship to music communities, and our work in organizing resistant spaces.

this workshop is open to all who are looking to grow their knowledge of safer spaces, to take care of themselves and their communities, and to ask questions about why safety and inclusion are important. this workshop will be focusing on music communities. if you are a musician, volunteer, run a music venue, work for a music festival, security staff, a concert goer, a music photography, graphic designer, sound tech or lighting tech, manager, grant writer or workshop facilitator, or someone who has been excluded, harmed, or isolated from the music community -- this workshop is for you!

this workshop will be casual and creative, but not interactive. you will be invited to sit, listen, write notes, ask questions, flip through our zines and think alongside us as we share. for those fearful of crowd participation - you will not be asked to share! for those with burning questions - you will be welcome to ask questions and guide the conversation if you’d like.

to guide the workshop conversation, we are compiling an archive of questions from across atlantic canada about safety and inclusion in music! if you’d like to share a question, you can learn more about our growing archive here. if you’d like to join our workshop to learn more about safer spaces, taking care of yourself & others, and building creative communities, we would love for you to join us.

tender growth: blooming beyond harm and nurturing safer spaces ZINE BY NIKKI BASSETT & KATE LAHEY

nikki a basset and kate lahey will be offering a workshop, “tender growth: blooming beyond harm and nurturing safer spaces”, at thunder & lightening in sackville, nb on april 27. as part of this collaborative project, nikki & kate are making a zine that compiles your questions! these questions will guide our conversation during the workshop.

we are asking folks to submit questions on the topic of harm, healing and safer spaces in the arts in atlantic canada. where do you see harm in our arts communities? where do you see care? do you have questions about what safer spaces means, how we create them and how we build more accessible communities? maybe you run a music festival, are an artist, a concert goer or a venue owner. maybe you write grants, are bar staff, or have felt excluded or harmed in arts spaces. we want to hear how safety, harm, care and community impact YOUR relationship with the arts.

the intention of archiving these questions is to create space for shared experiences, to invite participation, to engage folks to think about the questions and problems affecting their communities, and to act as guiding questions during our workshop.

this zine will be published and printed by nikki & kate. it will be distributed to workshop participants and available for sale online. those who submit questions will be invited to remain anonymous or have their name shared and published with their question. not all questions will be published.
